IndexNow Integration
In the modern web, waiting days or weeks for search engines to discover your new content is no longer acceptable. 42crawl includes full support for IndexNow, an open protocol that allows website owners to instantly notify search engines about latest content changes. This is a game-changer for technical SEO and generative engine optimization.
What is IndexNow?
IndexNow is a simple way for website owners to instantly inform search engines about the latest content changes. Search engines that support IndexNow (including Bing and Yandex) can then prioritize crawling these URLs, making your content visible much faster.
Why Use IndexNow with 42crawl?
- Instant Indexing: Shorten the time between "Publish" and "Search Result."
- Reduced Crawl Load: Search engines don't have to crawl your entire site to find one update, protecting your Core Web Vitals.
- Automated Workflow: 42crawl tracks changes between audits and helps you submit only the URLs that actually changed.
Setting Up IndexNow
To enable IndexNow for your domain in 42crawl:
- Generate a Key: Navigate to the IndexNow tab in your dashboard and click Enable IndexNow.
- Verify Ownership: Host a small text file on your website's root directory containing the key.
- Verify in 42crawl: Click Verify Key File. Once confirmed, the integration becomes active.
How to Submit URLs
Once verified, you can submit URLs to search engines in two ways:
1. Automatic Change Detection
After every run of our SEO crawler, 42crawl.fyipares the results with your previous audit. We automatically identify:
- New Pages: URLs found in this crawl but not the last.
- Updated Pages: Pages where the Title or H1 has changed.
- Deleted Pages: URLs that returned a 404.
2. Manual Submission
If you've made a specific update, you can manually paste URLs into the IndexNow panel for immediate submission.
Submission History
42crawl maintains a log of every IndexNow submission, including:
- Timestamp: When the submission occurred.
- URL Count: How many pages were submitted.
- Trigger: Whether it was a manual submission or automated change detection.
- Status: The HTTP response from the IndexNow API (e.g.,
200 OK).
Limitations & Best Practices
- Participation: Currently, Google does not officially support IndexNow (they use their own Indexing API, which is restricted to specific types of content). However, Bing and other major engines do.
- Quota: Search engines may have daily limits on how many URLs you can submit via IndexNow.
- Crawl != Index: While IndexNow guarantees a search engine knows about the change, it does not guarantee the page will be indexed or rank highly. Standard Technical SEO and Content Quality rules still apply.
- GEO Optimization: Use IndexNow to ensure AI bots associated with participating engines have your latest content for citations.
